@Charlie - You win on the finger pointing front but your points are extremely valid. You've touched on another important chasm that needs to be filled so thanks for the comment.

@Kevin - Great points and ideas here Kevin. And yes, many others are trying to see whether they can either embrace HRevolution itself or deploy some of the ideals within their own conference. I applaud it.

@Tracy - The "how big is too big?" question is one I struggle with. On one hand we want to make this as available as possible to the broad market yet keep that sense of workable communications intact. Great thoughts Tracy.

@Mike - Ooh, great ideas. I like the concept of rolling all the ideas from the regional/local events to a national forum. Very cool.

@Franny - Ahh, good point. That context would have probably helped people frame my constant prodding for "takeaways" and "top three things". And if you have ideas, I have two ears ready to take it all in. :)

Actually, the ONLY thing I would change was that I didn't know anything about your kinda-secret project involving several people in the room. So every time a session ended, you asked about next steps. I was thinking, "I don't know, dude, we're all going back to work. There's no next step for this group necessarily." But at the end of the day you told us what you guys are up to and I realized that you were asking about ideas to continue the conversation using your new platform. I have a LOT of ideas about that. Congrats and if this event is in any way an indicator of the quality you'll bring to future events, we are up for a HUGE treat.

Also - what Kevin and Mike said.

I think you should go hyperlocal, (regionally) AND hyperlocal (themeatically) several times a year, and then build off tiose efforts with a bigger, more collaborative national event no more than 2x annually. The national event should aggregate and develop topics and ideas that start at the hyperlocal events. But this would require capturing the knowledge, partners locally (state or even local SHRm chapters?) to help develop issues, presenters, etc...

Let's build a movement, not another professional association.

Yes, Tracy, roll the model out at specific sessions at the big shows as well (SHRM, HR Tech). I believe that's one of the reasons why Bill Kutik attended, to check out the informal facilitative process.

I didn't attend any of the HRevolution events (1st was money, 2nd was scheduling conflict) but I wanted to. I see there was a mixed reaction to the event and it's still a learning process since people are still getting use to the unconferences, hence the various reactions.

As for the future, I think you're seeing it in the next couple weeks when Philly holds their SocialMediaPlus, and DC holds RecruitDC, and various HR and Social Media clubs locally. I do think HRevolution is going to grow, but as I learn from others about this year's SWSX, how big is too big? Personally, I would get @shrmsocmedguy to setup HRevolution before or on SHRM's Annual Conference for next year. SHRM has done this before in San Diego, but it was poorly attended for some reason (my guess was the 7AM start time), but I think there's an audience for this and this shows not only SHRM, but HR execs that this profession wants to go to the next level.

Take it on the road and hyperlocalize. While the facilitative process needs to be worked on (Charlie's point), I believe these venues of highly collaborative, interactive and informal learning sessions are the best way to start evolve and grow HR as a business partner, and in order to reach the broader market that doesn't play online like we do, we've got to get to their backyards. That's the way I see it at least. I'd love to be a part of it.

As always, I love your perspective. And I literally just published a post on HRFishbowl http://bit.ly/9vvijX that touches on a related discontent - mixing those who are visionaries for a living with those who are on the ground and responsible for the caring and feeding of employees every day. It is inherently challenging to accomplish what the "unconference" sets out to accomplish while mixing these two groups. My post does a little more finger pointing, though...
