You are right! We do need to master our time. Something that worked effectively for me in live meetings is to stand up. Keep talking, but stand up. The other person will usually follow your physical cue and get up with you. If you're in your office, stand up and walk them to your door. If you're in a restaurant or coffee shop, start packing your things and walk towards the door. It hasn't failed me yet.

Thanks for a great post.

PS - Don't forget your pet peeves "At the end of the day..." and "In the interest of time..."

well said.
I'm sure I have a conversation killer, but it simply escapes me at the moment. Something to ponder.

(Trish, I love your comment, and I just can't top that)

Wow Mark, this has been an interesting post. You really hit on some key ideas and you have been so generous with your time. I have to tell you (standing up) that this is really fascinating (walking toward the door) and you really know your stuff (opening the door). Later (door closes behind me).

Seriously, this was an interesting post. If I ever catch you using any of these lines on me, I'll know exactly what you're doing.
