A classic gaff.

Reminds me of my first boss who had a few too many at a trade show party in San Fran about 10 years ago. He started to mosh on the dance floor (alone) and wiped out an innocent by stander. "I'm sooo sorry" he said as he help up the obviously rattled fellow now in a hump on the ground. "Let me buy you a drink, Mr..."

"Gates" he replied. "Bill Gates"

I LOVE stories like that! ;)

I worked for Midwest Micro (Now Systemax / Tiger) and witnessed an exchange just like that!

The parking lot was being resurfaced - and there was a huge sign that said, "DO NOT walk on asphalt" displayed as it was drying. We were standing right by the edge where the sign was - and a guy went walking right across the asphalt in front of us. Without skipping a beat - a new employee yelled, "Hey GENIUS!!! Can't you read?!?" The man turned around and gave a puzzled look and kept walking.

That "Genius" was the owner of the company Mark Runkle.

When we told the kid who he was - his jaw dropped to the ground! It was CLASSIC!

Hope you enjoyed reading about it as much as I enjoyed witnessing it!

Have a DYNAMITE day!

@Breanne - I wish it was the only time I had foot-in-mouth disease.

@drop dead chris - Sure Chris! Thx for the comment.

@Lady O Trout - He was fantastic. I thought I was about to have an exit overview over a donut. :)
